Matilda has sold over 10 million tickets worldwide, and now celebrates an impressive 3000 performances in the West End. It continues to delight audiences time and time again, becoming a top family favourite of theatre. Anyone that loved the 1988 book and 1996 film will no doubt adore this production. It has it’s own plot twists and character development, but includes all the golden moments we’ve all grown to love. Matilda the musical tells to story of a gifted girl who’s ignored by her parents and bullied by her headteacher. After discovering the power of telekinesis, Matilda sets about getting her own back on those who have wronged her. From pouring hydrogen peroxide in her father’s hair dye to haunting Miss Trunchbull by moving objects with her mind, she uses vivid imagination to teach them a lesson. The Royal Shakespeare Company were met with standing ovations and huge applause on opening night. Subsequently, the show hit the West End and Broadway, receiving more praise and acclaim. With explosive set designs, spectacular choreography and a super talented cast – particularly the young children, Matilda the musical is truly enjoyable for all ages. The timeless Roald Dahl story is now one of the most successful musicals of all time. Coupled with the ingenious creative team and cast, the show also brings to light the author’s characteristic playful charm. The Cambridge Theatre is a West End theatre, on a corner site in Earlham Street facing Seven Dials, in the London Borough of Camden, built in 1929-30 for Bertie Meyer on an "irregular triangular site".
